MS. L.KATHRYN FOGEL
A DEAR LADY,
LOVED BY SO MANY
FORMER STUDENTS
AND ALL OF US
PLAIN FOLKS
WHO WERE HAPPY TO
BECOME ACQUAINTED
WITH KATHRYN
SHORTLY AFTER THE TIME OF HER PASSING, WE CAN RECALL AN INDIVIDUAL FROM N. 7TH ST. REQUESTING THAT COPLAY COUNCIL HONOR HER MEMORY IN A SPECIAL WAY. WE WILL ADDRESS THAT IN A MOMENT. WE FIRST MET MS. FOGEL ON DEC. 1, 1958, WHEN, BY INVITATION OF BOB HAUKE, SR., WE ATTENDED A COPLAY REC & WELFARE MEETING AND WERE VOTED IN AS A NEW MEMBER. WE ARE ETERNALLY GRATEFUL FOR THE TIME SPENT WITH KATHRYN OVER THE YEARS. TO KNOW HER, WAS TO LOVE HER. WE HAVE ADDED A PHOTO FROM THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION OF REC & WELFARE ASSN. IN 2005, WHICH WAS HELD AT THE COPLAY SAENGERBUND OUTDOOR PAVILION. MS. FOGEL WAS THE HONORED GUEST.
LEFT TO RIGHT:
THE LATE JOYCE LONG, FORMER COPLAY COUNCIL MEMBER, FOUNDER OF COPLAY REC & WELFARE FOOD BANK.
THE LATE KATHRYN FOGEL, LONG TIME EDUCATOR AND MOLDER OF YOUNG FOLKS FUTURE.
MISS PAM MILLER, COPLAYITE, MIDWEST AMERICA TEACHER OF 43 YEARS, DAUGHTER OF THE LATE GEORGE "SQUIRE"MILLER, WHO WAS A LIFE LONG ACTIVIST IN COPLAY.

WHERE MS. FOGEL TAUGHT
WE HAVE READ THE COPLAY COUNCIL MINUTES FROM JULY 2011 DEEP INTO 2012 AND WILL CONTINUE TO DELVE FURTHER, DESPITE THE FACT THAT MY WIFE ANN, AND I, HAD ATTENDED MANY COUNCIL MEETINGS THRU DECEMBER 2013.
I WILL PRINT OUT THE COPLAY COUNCIL MINUTES OF SEPT. 13, 2011 (REGULAR MEETING), OCTOBER 4, 2011 ( WORKSHOP MEETING) AND THE OCTOBER 11, 2011 (REGULAR MEETING, AS THEY APPEAR ON THE COPLAY BOROUGH'S WEBSITE, CONCERNING THIS ISSUE.
THUS FAR, WE HAVE FOUND ONLY THE FOLLOWING THREE REFERENCES TO THE MEMORIAL REQUEST.
REGULAR MEETING SEPTEMBER 13, 2011.
REPORTS OF OFFICERS AND STANDING COMMITTEES.
ROYER THANKED PUBLIC WORKS FOR STORM CLEAN UP. STREETS DEPARTMENT NORMAL OPERATIONS. RECEIVED REQUEST FROM A FEW RESIDENTS FOR COUNCIL TO CONSIDER CHANGING NAME OF KEEFER STREET TO HONOR LONGTIME RESIDENT AND FORMER COPLAY SCHOOL TEACHER KATHRYN FOGEL. REQUESTS COUNCIL DISCUSSION ON REQUEST AT OCTOBER WORKSHOP.
WORKSHOP MEETING OCTOBER 4, 2011
DISCUSSION OF ANY PROBLEMS/MATTERS.
CONSIDERATION TO CHANGE NAME OF KEEFER STREET TO HONOR LONG-TIME RESIDENT AND COPLAY SCHOOL TEACHER KATHRYN FOGEL. ROYER STATED CONSIDERATION FOR KEEFER STREET FROM MAPLE TO CHERRY, THERE ARE NO RESIDENCES ALONG THIS AREA AND CORRESPONDS TO WHERE ORIGINAL LINCOLN SCHOOL BUILDING, WHERE MS. FOGEL TAUGHT, WAS SITUATED. PISKULA STATED UNSURE OF WHO MS. FOGEL WAS, COUNCIL SHOULD HAVE MORE INFORMATION PRIOR TO ANY DECISION INCLUDING MORE COMMUNITY INPUT ON A CHANGE SUCH AS THIS. BUNDRA STATED AGREES FOGEL SHOULD BE HONORED, HOWEVER KEEFER WAS VERY IMPORTANT TO COPLAY HISTORY AS WELL, QUESTIONED IF PERHAPS ANOTHER STREET COULD BE CHANGED. ROYER STATED DISCUSSION IS JUST TO GET COUNCIL INPUT ON POSSIBILITY OF NAME CHANGE. MANN REQUESTED FURTHER DISCUSSION IN COMMITTEE ON TOPIC WITH RECOMMENDATION TO COUNCIL IN FUTURE. CHIEF GENOVESE ADDED EXPLANATION ON NOT ACTUALLY CHANGING NAME DUE TO PUBLIC SAFETY REASONS, AS AMBULANCE PERSONNEL MAY BE UNABLE TO FIND ADDRESS IF STREET NAME CHANGED. ROYER SUGGESTED NOT CHANGE ACTUAL NAME OF STREET DO AS HONORARY, SAME AS WHITEHALL DID ON 7TH STREET FOR JESSE REED WAY WHICH IS IN ADDITION TO ORIGINAL STREET NAME. MANN STATED WILL AWAIT ADDITIONAL DISCUSSION AFTER COMMITTEE GATHERS INFORMATION AND REPORTS TO COUNCIL.
REGULAR MEETING OCTOBER 11, 2011.
REPORTS OF OFFICERS AND STANDING COMMITTEES.
ROYER REPORTED NORMAL OPERATIONS IN STREET DEPARTMENT. CRACK SEALING OF ROADWAYS COMPLETED LAST WEEK. WILL MEET WITH COMMITTEE TO DISCUSS POSSIBLE CHANGE IN NAME OF KEEFER STREET TO HONOR LONGTIME RESIDENT AND FORMER COPLAY SCHOOL TEACHER KATHRYN FOGEL, WILL ALSO CONTACT ORGANIZATIONS AND MAYBE INITIATE RESIDENT COMMITTEE TO OBTAIN ADDITIONAL INPUT PRIOR TO COUNCIL DECISION.
THIS IS ALL WE HAVE FOUND THUS FAR THAT DEALS WITH THE MEMORIAL REQUEST. IF SOMEONE CAN SHOW US MORE THAN WE HAVE FOUND, WE WILL APOLOGIZE. BUT, WE WILL CONTINUE THE RESEARCH OF COPLAY BOROUGH MINUTES. IT IS NOW MORE THAN 4 YEARS LATER AND NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE. LET US STAY POSITIVE AND WORK TO GET A FINAL DECISION ON WHAT SHOULD BE DONE TO HONOR A DEAR AND WONDERFUL LADY, WHO IS A TRUE ICON IN COPLAY BOROUGH HISTORY.
ON THE POSSIBLE NAME CHANGE TO "THE L. KATHRYN FOGEL LINCOLN ELEMENTARY SCHOOLWAY" OR " THE LINCOLN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND L. KATHRYN FOGEL WAY", OR WHATEVER IS DECIDED UPON.
TO CLARIFY THE ADDRESS QUESTION AS STATED BY ROYER AND WHAT WAS STATED BY POLICE CHIEF GENOVESE.
KEEFER STREET EXTENDS FROM N. FRONT ST. TO MAPLE ST.
KEEFER ST. IS 2 WAY FROM N. FRONT ST. TO CHERRY ST.
KEEFER ST. IS ONE WAY EAST FROM MAPLE ST. TO CHERRY ST
AS ROYER STATED, THERE ARE NO ADDRESSES ASSOCIATED WITH ALL OF KEEFER ST., THEREFORE WHAT POLICE CHIEF GENOVESE STATED ABOUT EMERGENCY PERSONNEL HAVING A POSSIBLE DIFFICULTY IN FINDING AN ADDRESS IS NOT CORRECT. MOOT ISSUE.
LET US KEEP A POSITIVE ATTITUDE AND BRING THIS MEMORIAL FOR A TRULY DESERVING PERSON, MS. L KATHRYN FOGEL, TO A MEANINGFUL CONCLUSION.
PLEASE SHARE WITH YOUR FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS!!!
THANK YOU
GOD BLESS,
FRANK AND ANN DICKMAN
