COPLAY COMMUNITY DAYS SCHEDULE 2011

Coplay Community Days in 2011` was in jeopardy until Stephen Burker stepped forward and accepted the chairmanship.  Retired Boro Secretary Carol Schleder volunteered as well as the women of the Coplay Lioness Club.  Faye Schreiner is serving in the capacity of treasurer.  It has expanded to four days - Thursday thru Sunday instead of the traditional two day Saturday/Sunday of previous years.  This year they have utilized Saylor Field to bring in S&S Amusement Rides which also has vendors.  This changes it into a carnival atmosphere, which I am certain will be welcomed by the youngsters of Coplay and the surrounding area.  It was felt that the observance needed to change the direction or overall format if it is to survive into the future.  Mr. Burker has engaged several contemporary music groups, as well as a Coors Light Karaoke Contest Finals, on the Pavilion Stage, with  a Grand Prize of $500.00.  For the traditional or old time flavor, JOHNNY DEE is scheduled to perform on Sunday afternoon followed by the popular group, the AARDVARKS.  Also making an appearance will be "Uncle Jeffery Tapler" of the WTAP Cable TV Program, The Pennsylvania Dutch Polka Show.  There will be Sidewalk Art by the children and the CHILI CONTEST by the Fireworks committee headed up by Sandy and Gene Gyecsek.
Also,  a Hot Dog Eating Contest sponsored by Binnie's Dog House, which is now under the proprietorship of retired Whitehall Police Officer Mark Dobil and his wife. The proceeds will benefit the Spec. Jesse Reed Family.  Spec. Reed made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country and preserving the Freedom we all enjoy. God Bless.
The Lehigh Valley Chapter March of Dimes will benefit from a Duck Pond.  The Coplay Library will have a book sale scheduled for Sunday at the pool.  Inclement weather may have an effect on the scheduling of various events.  The Boro Swimming Pool will be open on Saturday and Sunday, with FREE ADMISSION.  A Dip & Dance is set for Saturday from 1:00 to 3:00pm with FREE ADMISSION.

Another Highlight will be the Dedication of the new Fire Truck, new Garbage Truck and the new Police Car at 1:30pm Saturday in the Kiln Area.

The weather outlook is not good for Sunday because of Hurricane Irene.  It is suggested that everyone visit the celebration, definitely before Sunday, and patronize all of our organizations who raise funds to operate year round and who contribute a portion of their proceeds to the Coplay Community Days Committee.  History shows that the Committee has used those funds to enhance our community.  . Although not having a physical presence at Coplay Community Days, COPLAY CRIME WATCH is in full support of the Committee's efforts and made a small cash contribution.
