WE HOPE YOU ALL HAD A HAPPY FATHERS DAY
WE STARTED OFF ON A NEGATIVE NOTE WHEN IT
BECAME OBVIOUS THAT, FOR PERSONAL REASONS WE COULDN'T ATTENDTHE OLD COPLAY
FIRE CO. NO. 1 BREAKFAST.
OUR LOSS.
MY LADY ANN AND I WILL SURVIVE.
BUT, THEN THINGS GOT BRIGHTER WHEN OUR WHOLE FAMILY POPPED IN. OUR SON AND HIS TWO BOYS LATE IN THE AM. HE EVEN WENT TO THE SUPPLY HOUSE,PICKED UP THE NECESSARY SUPPLIES AND STARTED TO PAINT THE FRONT OF THE GARAGE.
ON FATHERS DAY!!!!
FRANK K. IS JUST COMPLETING HIS 14TH YEAR AS A HIGH SCHOOL GUIDANCE COUNSELOR. HIS CHOSEN CAREER.
THE TWO GRANDSONS WERE PRETTY EXCEPTIONAL ON THIS DAY. TWO WHIZBANGS WHICH HELPED MAKE THE DAY. LOGAN, THE OLDEST, PLAYED IN AN ALL STAR BASEBALL GAME ON SATURDAY, WHILE HIS YOUNGER BROTHER, AIDEN, CLIMBED THE TREES AT COVERED BRIDGE PARK. BOTH ARE DOING WELL IN THEIR STUDIES. LOGAN IS TAKING LESSONS ON THE CLARINET. AIDEN GAVE UP BASEBALL FOR THIS YEAR BUT IS ACTIVE IN THE CUB SCOUT PROGRAM. WE ARE HAPPY FOR THEIR INVOLVEMENT AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS.
EARLY AFTERNOON FOUND US BEING JOINED BY THE FARQUHAR FAMILY. OUR SON IN LAW SCOTT (A TRUE SON TO US) , OUR MARYROSE AND THE TWO YOUNG LADIES, OUR GRANDDAUGHTERS, GINA AND JADE.
MARYROSE ATTENDED KINDERGARDEN AT LINCOLN ELEMENTARY AND 8 YEARS AT ST. PETER'S ELEMENTARY BEFORE WHITEHALL HIGH SCHOOL AND THEN COMPLETING HER EDUCATION AT PENN STATE. SOME OF YOU MAY REMEMBER MARYROSE, WHO HAS WORKED AT THE COPLAY PUBLIC LIBRARY FOR MORE THAN 18 YEARS. TOTALLY CONCERNED AND DEDICATED WHERE THE LIBRARY WAS CONCERNED, AS WELL AS, A WIFE AND MOTHER. HUSBAND SCOTT SPENT MANY A VISIT TO THE LIBRARY WHEN REPAIRS OR UPGRADES WERE NEEDED TO THE COMPUTER SYSTEM, PRO BONO.
THEY WERE BOTH INVOLVED IN FUND RAISING EVENTS FOR THE LIBRARY, AS WERE THEIR TWO DAUGHTERS.
BOTH YOUNG LADIES ALSO VOLUNTEERED AT THE COPLAY REC & WELFARE FOOD BANK WHEN MY ANN WAS THE DIRECTOR FOR SOME 8 YEARS. GINA, THEIR OLDEST, JUST GRADUATED FROM MORAVIAN COLLEGE IN 3 YEARS. SHE WAS PROFICIENT IN HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL AND ALSO PLAYED ON THE SOFTBALL TEAM. JADE, THE YOUNGEST, WAS A LEHIGH VALLEY ALL STAR IN BASKETBALL THIS YEAR (A SENIOR NEXT YEAR) AND ALSO A MEMBER OF THE TRACK AND FIELD TEAM. JADE IS ALSO PLAYING BASKETBALL FOR AN AAU TEAM. BOTH GINA AND JADE HAVE HELPED AS INSTRUCTORS AND PLAYED BASKETBALL AT THE SPORTS COMPLEX, "IN THE ZONE", IN BATH,PA.
I COULD GO ON AND ON AND ON, BUT I BELIEVE I HAVE MADE MY POINT. WHAT MORE COULD A HUSBAND, A FATHER AND GRANDFATHER ASK FOR ON FATHERS DAY?
I HOPE YOU WERE ALL AS FORTUNATE AS I WAS ON FATHERS DAY!!!!!!!!!
GOD BLESS,
FRANK DICKMAN
A FEW WORDS ON THE DATE - JUNE 17.
59 YEARS AGO, ON FRIDAY JUNE 17, 1955, ANN AND I VISITED THE DESIGNATED BANK IN BETHLEHEM, SIGNED ON THE DOTTED LINE AND BECAME MORTGAGE HOLDING, TAX PAYING HOME OWNERS IN THE BOROUGH OF "COPLAY", A PLACE THAT WE CAME TO CONSIDER AS THE CLOSEST THING TO "UTOPIA". I ASK YOU TO CHECK BACK IN OUR ARCHIVES TO OUR FIRST THREE POSTINGS. I BELIEVE I COVERED IT PRETTY WELL AT THAT TIME. I THINK YOU MIGHT CHUCKLE WHEN YOU READ OF OUR ROAD TO A PLACE WE HAD NEVER VISITED BEFORE. ANN SPOTTED AN AD IN THE MORNING CALL ON A SUNDAY MORNING WITH NEW HOMES FOR AS LITTLE AS $9,990.00. CHECK WHAT THEY ARE BEING SOLD FOR TODAY IN GOOD OLD "ECHO MANOR". YES, WE WERE TRULY BLESSED IN THE "GOOD OLD DAYS".
