AUGUST 4, 1977
A DAY WITH SORROWFUL MEMORIES, BUT AT THE SAME TIME, IT REMINDS ME HOW BLESSED WE HAVE BEEN WITH THOSE INVOLVED. I RECEIVED A DREADFUL PHONE CALL EARLY THAT MORNING TO INFORM ME THAT MY MOTHER HAD PASSED AWAY PEACEFULLY IN HER SLEEP. IN MY RUSH TO GET TO SUMMIT HILL I WAS STOPPED BY A PA STATE POLICE OFFICER FOR USING THE LEFT TURN LANE TO PASS THE TRAFFIC AT THE LIGHT AT LEHIGH GAP. HE WAS VERY COMPASSIONATE AND QUICKLY SENT ME ON MY WAY WITH SINCERE CONDOLENCES AND NOTHING MORE.
THE DICKMAN FAMILY
DAN YELLEN, COUNCILMAN, COPLAY BURGESS, OLD TIME BASEBALL PLAYER, AN ACTIVE MEMBER OF A MASONIC LODGE, WHERE HE HELPED PROVIDE A BENEFICIAL HEALTH SERVICE FOR A COPLAY RESIDENT VIA THE LODGE. A TRUE REPUBLICAN, HE NEVER ALLOWED THAT TO AFFECT OUR RELATIONSHIP. DAN, IN THE FALL OF 1968, AS PART OF A NUMBER OF PEOPLE WHO ATTENDED THE FIRST MEETING TO PREPARE FOR COPLAY'S CENTENNIAL ACTIVITIES, PLACED MY NAME IN NOMINATION FOR CENTENNIAL CHAIRMAN. I STILL FEEL THE WARMTH THAT I FELT THAT DAY BECAUSE OF HIS FAITH AND TRUST IN ME. I AM STILL HUMBLED BY THE THOUGHT, CONSIDERING I WAS A RESIDENT OF COPLAY FOR ONLY 14 YEARS. I RESPECTFULLY DECLINED THE NOMINATION AND STATED THAT I FELT THE CHAIRMAN OF THE COPLAY CENTENNIAL SHOULD BE A NATIVE BORN SON. (JOE MONDSCHEIN WAS CONTACTED BY A COMMITTEE OF TWO AND ACCEPTED THE POSITION). I VERY MUCH MISS THE MANY CHATS WITH DAN YELLEN IN THE GOOD OLD DAYS. MAYBE I'LL GET TO SEE HIM AGAIN ALSO. MAY HE REST IN PEACE.
PLEASE SAY A PRAYER FOR THEM ALL.
THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS,
