WHAT'S GOING ON IN OUR COMMUNITY THAT USED TO BE THE CLOSEST THING TO UTOPIA?
AN ARTICLE IN THE WHITEHALL/COPLAY PRESS ON THURSDAY, AUGUST 14, 2014 TOLD OF THE DEMOTION OF DAN PAVELKO, FROM THE HEAD OF THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT, WHICH COVERS BOTH THE STREETS AND SANITATION DEPARTMENTS, TO THE POSITION OF CREW CHIEF. THAT AMOUNTS TO A $10,000 TO $11,000 DOLLAR CUT IN PAY. DAN HAS BEEN AN EMPLOYEE OF COPLAY FOR SOME 30 YEARS, OF WHICH, 15 YEARS HAVE BEEN IN HIS POSITION HEADING UP PUBLIC WORKS. SEVERAL YEARS AGO WE SPOKE OF THE "BEST KEPT SECRET IN THE LEHIGH VALLEY" OUR PUBLIC WORKS CREW THAT INCLUDED MULTI-TALENTED SUPERVISORS. WHAT THEY BROUGHT TO THE TABLE FOR OUR BENEFIT IS IMMEASURABLE. DURING MY 15 1/2 MONTHS ON COUNCIL IN 2004-2005, WE DIDN'T RECEIVE A SINGLE COMPLAINT IN THE SANITATION DEPARTMENT, WHICH WAS MY COMMITTEE, BUT WE DID RECEIVE COMPLIMENTS ON SERVICE PROVIDED. JOE BUNDRA WAS CHAIRMAN OF THE STREETS DEPARTMENT AND OUR JOB WAS MADE VERY EASY BECAUSE OF THE SUPERVISORS IN CHARGE. NO TASK WAS TOO SMALL, NOR TOO LARGE. THEY GOT IT DONE WITH RESOURCES ON HAND. THIS COMMUNITY HAS SAVED MANY DOLLARS BECAUSE OF THE SELFLESS DEDICATION TO SERVICE BY EACH OF OUR EMPLOYEES. TIME AND AGAIN THEY HAVE RESPONDED TO REQUESTS BY THE TAXPAYERS IF THERE WAS AN ISSUE THEY COULD ADDRESS AND SOLVE. WE BELIEVE A LOT OF THIS WAS MADE POSSIBLE BY HAVING LEADERSHIP THAT LED BY EXAMPLE. I BELIEVE IT IS WORTH MENTIONING, THAT DAN PAVELKO, AS A WORKING SUPERVISOR, HAS NOT HAD ANY HELP (TO OUR KNOWLEDGE) WITH THE PAPERWORK INVOLVED IN THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT. HE DIDN'T WAY BACK WHEN I WAS INVOLVED. SHAME ON ME. THE BOROUGH OFFICE HAS A FULL TIME SECRETARY WITH A PART TIME EMPLOYEE TO ASSIST. THE POLICE DEPARTMENT IS FULLY STAFFED, WITH THE AUXILIARY POLICE TO FILL THE GAPS, AND HAS A PART TIME SECRETARY.
DAN PAVELKO IS INSTRUMENTAL IN THE SWIMMING POOL BEING AS FUNCTIONAL AS IT IS. IT IS DAN WHO WAS CALLED ON TO KEEP THE PAVILION AND PARKWAY UP TO DATE. IT HAS BEEN DAN WHO HAS BEEN INSTRUMENTAL IN KEEPING THE ANTIQUATED HEATING SYSTEM CHUGGING ALONG IN THE BOROUGH MUNICIPAL BUILDING. WE ARE NOT SAYING THAT DAN WASN'T ASSISTED BY OTHER EMPLOYEES. (DAN AND RICK BUNDRA WORKED WELL TOGETHER AS SUPERVISORS) BUT, WE BELIEVE, BY EXAMPLE HE BRINGS OUT THE BEST IN THE OTHER EMPLOYEES. THEY WORK AS A TEAM AND HE USES THEIR ABILITIES IN VARIOUS TASKS TO BE ACCOMPLISHED. HE SHOWS RESPECT AND RECEIVES THE SAME IN RETURN.
A QUOTE FROM THE PAST:
IF SOMETHING AIN'T BROKE, DON'T FIX IT!!!
IN OUR OPINION, FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH, WE BELIEVE THAT OUR COMMUNITY SHOULD BAND TOGETHER AND REQUEST THAT COPLAY BOROUGH COUNCIL RECONSIDER AND RESCIND THEIR DECISION TO KNOCK DAN PAVELKO DOWN. LET US RECOGNIZE HIS , AND THE OTHER EMPLOYEE'S, DEDICATION IN SERVING EVERYONE IN THE BOROUGH OF COPLAY. THERE IS A SOLID WORK CREW IN PLACE AND ALL THAT SHOULD BE DONE IS TO FILL THE VACANT POSITION OF CREW CHIEF WITH A NEW HIRE AND ALLOW DAN PAVELKO TO HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO CONTINUE TO SERVE US IN HIS PRESENT CAPACITY AS HEAD OF THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT. REWARD HIM FOR HIS THIRTY YEARS OF DEDICATED PUBLIC SERVICE.
WE HOPE YOU HAVE TAKEN THE TIME TO READ THIS AND THEN SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH US. THANK YOU.
MICROMANAGEMENT HAS NO PLACE IN THE BOROUGH OF COPLAY!!!
GOD BLESS,
