COPLAY FACES & PLACES, PAST & PRESENT Part 4

Several years ago while visiting out West, Coplay resident Denise Bodish, RN employed at Lehigh Valley Hospital, became aware of a program that was in use in that area with the title of VIAL OF LIFE.  The program is comprised of two V stickers, a VIAL with a V sticker on it and 2 Medical Info forms. (Additional info forms are available and the kits are free of charge).  There are three steps to take.  Place a V sticker on or very close to the home or apartment entrance, a second V sticker is placed on the refrigerator door and completed info sheets are inserted in the V vial and that vial is placed in a conspicuous location in the refrigerator. There is an updated version of the program which, in place of the vial, a transparent pouch is provided for the info sheets and this is placed on the outside of the refrigerator door. At this time we are using the VIAL system. Upon her return she provided the information of the program to the officials in charge of Lehigh Valley Hospital.  They, in turn, made a grant available for Denise to implement the program throughout the Lehigh Valley.  Coplay was introduced to the Vial Of Life at that time and some 7 months ago Mrs. Bodish contacted Coplay Crime Watch and asked if Coplay Crime Watch would be interested in the excess kits for possible further distribution.  In January 2010, Ms. Lynn Nagle of Cetronia Ambulance Corps, presented a demonstration on CPR, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation and the proper administration of a Defibrillator.  While there, she was shown the Vial of Life kits.  She gladly accepted several bags of kits for the Cetronia Ambulance Corps, which could serve 150 to 200 families. Coplay Crime Watch is in the process of distributing the kits to those folks in Coplay who may have a need.  Consideration will be given to involve a neighboring community if they wish to participate.  This is all taking place because of the professional and caring attitude of a woman who takes her role in the nursing trade seriously.  We owe Mrs. Bodish a debt of gratitude. And also to the Lehigh Valley Hospital and Health Network.  God Bless.

UNEXPECTED CONNECTION.  On the first weekend in June, my wife took our son's Golden Retriever out for his pre-bedtime visit.  Unfortunately, my wife tripped and fell on the handicap ramp.  She called for assistance but was not heard until a neighbor's grandson, leaving for home, heard her distress call.  He picked her up and escorted her into the house.  The next morning she placed a whistle on a lanyard and continued to wear it.  We knew, at best, this was a temporary fix. We started searching the internet for a Medical Alert company and there were quite a few.  We evaluated them all and Ann finally made her choice of a provider.  The equipment arrived on Saturday July 31, 2010, was activated, and we both now wear our alarm pendant. We are not saying which company it is, but one of the items provided by a seperate entity of the company is VIAL OF LIFE.  As Paul Harvey used to say - NOW YOU KNOW THE REST OF THE STORY!!!
